Geography
Southern suburbs of Adelaide. Reynell covers Reynella, Old Reynella, Lonsdale and Morphett Vale. Reynell covers the north-western corner of Onkaparinga council area.
Redistribution
Reynell shifted east, gaining the remainder of Old Reynella and Morphett Vale from Hurtle Vale, losing Hackham West to Hurtle Vale and also losing Port Noarlunga, Christies Beach and part of Christie Downs to Kaurna. These changes cut the Labor margin from 14.5% to 9.4%.
History
Reynell has existed as an electorate since the 1993 election. The seat was won by the Liberal Party at the 1993 landslide election, but has been won by Labor ever since 1997.
Julie Greig won the seat for the Liberal Party. She served one term, and lost to the ALP’s Gay Thompson in 1997.
Thompson was re-elected in 2002, 2006 and 2010.
Thompson retired in 2014, and was succeeded by Labor candidate Katrine Hildyard. Hildyard was re-elected in 2018.
